    Hi Martin,

That’s good news, as I just happen to have two tins of Redwing Mink Oil that I use on my Redwing Irish Setter boots!!

Thanks again for your help and patience.

    Best wishes David

    Hi Martin,

That’s brilliant and thanks for the photo comparisons. Your oiled/waxed seat looks great and is a much better colour than the original. It actually looks like a nearer match for the leather grips and tankini I have fitted. Always wondered why the factory didn’t spec their leather items so they matched.

Can I be really pedantic and ask what make Mink oil you used and is it a cream or liquid?

    Thanks for all your help.

    Regards David

    Hi Martin,

Thanks for your speedy reply. I also have a chain guard fitted but I am not sure it extends far enough to the back of the bike to be of any real value in stopping chain lube being flung around. I use Wurth High Performance Dry Chain Lube generally on the bike so excessive fling is not a real problem but what fling there is is annoying. You mentioned you waxed your seat from new, what wax exactly did you/do you use? I’d be interested to see how your saddle looks now if you have any photographs that you could post.

    Many Thanks David

    Hi John,

Thanks for the information about E10 fuel. I must say I am surprised the that the engine manufactures cannot supply information regarding their engines being E10 fuel compliant or not.
What about the plastic fuel tanks? Have you had any information from the makers about E10 compatibility? I have looked on the Acerbis web site ( I believe they make your fuel tanks) but cannot find any relevant information. Whilst your advice on using Super Unleaded is a help it will incur greater running costs for owners while you complete your own evaluations on the engine/drivetrain and does not actually address the potential problems which may exist with the current tanks.

    Regards

    David

    Hi Mark,
I don’t know if this is of any help but I had a problem with my speedo and trip meter when I used my bike for the first time after a lay off over Christmas. Both speedo and trip were significantly under reading. I e-mailed John Drogan directly and had a quick response from him saying he had passed the information on to Steve.I had an e-mail from Steve within half a day telling me one of the technicians would contact me as soon as possible. The following day Ben rang me to discuss the problems. He talked me through the settings in the instrument panel and found one that wasn’t as it should be. It was easily corrected following the technicians clear instructions and everything was sorted in 48 hours.
Might be worth contacting Steve or John directly and try and have a chat with one of the technicians.

    Thanks John,
I’m using regular unleaded at the moment although I haven’t done that many miles as yet. Starting and running have been very good. When the weather improves I might give super unleaded a try just as a comparison. A lot of the major manufacturers engines have been compatible with the E10 fuel for many years and I believe it is a standard fuel in many European countries as well as the USA. The expanding tank situation was quite prevalent in the USA I think particularly with the early Ducati Monster machines amongst others, there were also issues with Triumph tanks as well. Having paid £750 for my tank I am hoping that swelling will not occur but like you I would appreciate a comment from someone at the factory hopefully to put minds at rest!

    Hi David

Thanks for you reply. I hadn’t thought about the suspension set up. I usually leave any bikes I may have on the factory settings. I have the standard Marzocchi forks with the upgrade Ohlins rear shock fitted on my Six. I am quite a big bloke (nearly 16 stone) so maybe I am overwhelming the rear shock as it is currently set up. I will experiment with the preload and see if it improves things. Not sure I’m going to get to my first service mileage any time soon as the weather is deteriorating and I tend to be a fair weather rider these days but I will get the guys to look at the set up when the time comes.

    Hi John,
Just received my Spitfire Six today. It’s been a long wait as I ordered it in November 2018. Not withstanding Covid etc and issues around frame corrosion before previous scheduled delivery I am delighted with the way it looks. I am sure Ben, Steve and Paul must have dreaded being told that I was on the phone again chasing my order but we got there in the end so many thanks to all of them. I haven’t ridden it yet and that is on my list for tomorrow but if it goes as well as it looks I shall be very happy. I’ve been riding for over 53 years so not exactly in the first flush of youth but really excited about the addition of the Six to my garage. We have some great roads around where I live so I’m hoping to get out as much as possible before the bad weather sets in, the other bikes might just have to take a back seat for the moment.
