I had to take the tank off today to do a battery swap. Here are some pictures of the underside. I hadn’t noticed before but there is a distinct number 8 etched into the bottom, I wonder if all the aly tanks have been numbered?

Lucky you SMALL. My original had the spider rust marks you mention which really bugged me, luckily, I was offered a frame swap which I accepted, and I now actually prefer the bike with its sparkle noir frame.
I noticed that the weld on your frame rising from the swing arm pivot is a lot longer than on my original frame. I was told that short welds approx 2″ indicates the early problematic frames, i wonder if there are any early bikes with the shorter weld that have not developed this rust? Or any later bikes with the longer weld that have?

    Hi Mark

My original Spitfire had it’s first not back in March, they didn’t mention the indicators at all. I was expecting something, as I had read up about the distance required between them, but they were more interested in taking some photos of the bike. Go somewhere else next time.

    Hi Robin
Maybe worth checking the battery terminals. Mine worked themselves loose once causing similar issues

Well done Pp, you must be buzzin’. Your post makes me feel relieved I got mine second hand. Hope you enjoy the ride! And I hope the service dept. is better than sales/delivery when the time comes

Hi jckman8, had a look at the idle speed on my original today, it’s around 1500/1600rpm and doesn’t cut out. When I first got it (second hand), it used to cut out and eventually the electrics packed up altogether but this was because one of the battery terminals had come loose. Since then it’s been fine, only ever cut out a couple of times when petrol light was on, luckily I’ve not been to far from a garage! It’s done 1k now so I don’t know if the motor sweetens up a bit with use?

Thanks DavidJ I had not even heard about E10 fuel before reading this.. I would like to hear from someone at at CCM to confirm that the Spitfire motor is E10 compatible?

At least I won’t need to worry about my fuel tank then, as I’ve got one of the the first 75 original Spitfires with an aluminium tank

On a similar note.. I wonder what fuel everyone is using in their bikes? I use regular unleaded, I tried super unleaded but it didn’t seem to run as well.
