I´m an ex-pat, living within the EU. I´ve got two CCMs (Flat Tracker & 644DS) The Flat Tracker is on a `special permit´, which means that I can´t sell it to anyone who wants to use it within the EU. I´d like to trade in the Flat Tracker in the UK and purchase a Six. Has anyone managed to get a new CCM registered in the EU????
How did you manage to get it onto an EU register? They tell me that I haven´t got a hope until CCM homologates the bike! You local Franch dealer must be a GENIUS!
Very true! (I´ve just done that). I use an Ion battery in my old CCM 644. It refused to start yeatreday and I attached it to by standard charger. Got a new battery …. and the coorect chatger.
If you hold the bike upright and take pressure off the stand, it´ll flip up. If it doesn´t flip up and it stays down, you won´t be able to start or use the starter (unless you disable the switch on ther frame). Why do you want it to stay down?
I´d gladly trade in my pristine 644 Flat Tracker and get a new Spitfire …. IF I could get it registered within the EU. I only managed to get the 644 registered with the limitation that it could never be transferred to another owner within the EU! Anyone with a solution to the problem?
No ally tank was harmed when I wired a bulb and stuck it inthe filler to make a wall lamp. I´ll use it one day when my present ally tank gets bashed. I always thought that Joe Maxwell (http://www.joemaxwell-engineering.com/whatsnew.html) made special parts as well as the ally tanks.
I keep my Flat Tracker for whenever the 644´s laid up for tinkering. It always feels a bit too low for me but I do like its looks. I replaced the zorst with a Quill (as on the new Six) and even with the sound deadener it makes your ears bleed.I switch off well before I get home and roll the last bit. I got hold of the last ally tank which I keep as a spare; it´s so beautiful, I use it as a wall lamp!
(a) If you´re satisfied with the bike, and don´t want to sell it, you could apply for the type of personal registration that I managed to obtain. I have to carry a copy around with me and I cannot re-sell the bike within the EU (if I wanted, I could send it back to the UK to be sold).
(b) You could leave it on the UK register with a UK number plate for a year (you´d need someone to register it for you in nthe UK). Apparently you´d then have to take it back to the UK for a short period before bringing it back to D.
… but if you´re looking for a ROTAX CCM, how about a British Army 500cc Armstrong Harley Davidson/CCM. There are number of Army surplus dealers. You´ll find most of them on: http://bikelinks.com/directory/Makes/CCM/
One is a 644DS (the one I use most) and the spare is a CCM 644 Flat Tracker that is on a limited registratiion (cannot be registered by anyone else within the EU). I´d have to bring it back to the UK in the event. I suppose I´d have the same situation if I attempted to import a Spitfire!
I´ve owned a 604 and appreciate the ability to do what you want with the engine. That is one of the main reasons that I´m hanging on to the 644.
What part of the country are you in? (I´m in Berlin)
