    Hi

I’m loving my blackout but have been searching everywhere for a way to ‘soften’ the front suspension. I’d like to do some light off-roading but I don’t think my joints would cope with the current set-up. I’m a bit of a novice with a spanner so would need an idiot’s guide. I know from the handbook where the compression, rebound and damping adjustments are (I think!) but have no idea what to actually do. Is there a youtube video somewhere or a step by step guide?

    thanks

    Hi Rob
Suspension adjustment is a black (out) art!
If you watched Dougie Lampkin riding the Maverick up a rocky trail, the only adjustment he made was to lower the pressures to about 20psi to make the tyres roll over the lumps and bumps rather than bump off them.
You would need to bring a pump with you to put them back to standard road pressures.
How many miles have you done? You need over 1000 miles to bed the suspension in before considering adjustment. If you feel it needs more input, I would consult with a suspension specialist who will set it up for your weight/ riding style for a reasonable fee.

Thanks John, I’ve just gone over 1000 miles so a suspension specialist is probably a good idea.

I’ve just had the front forks stripped down , thinner oil and a larger air gap put in as my flat tracker was un rideable even when full adjusted to as “ soft” as we could set it , it was so hard the mudguard mount sheared off when I hit a medium size bump in the Rd and I had to renew a complete fork leg , it’s a county mile better now , so I’d advise this route
