I was going to suggest listening for the relay , you will only hear the fuel pump or the starter motor ! There are two large relays under the front of the tank , one each side and one of them is for the m lock , motogadget recommend fitting a capacitor inline if the starter motor takes a lot of battery power , it stops the ignition relay dropping out when the starter is cranking the engine, (shouldn’t be necessary on a spitfire), it’s a shame you don’t have the benefit of a CCM mobile tech , I was very impressed and that’s not easy , why can’t they meet you on the mainland , I would make some more calls and tell them to make it happen.
